Create an LPAR with specific WWPNs
By the command below an LPAR can be created with specific WWPNs, of course if you use NPIV adapters. It can be useful for LPARS migration between servers. It is extremely dangerous command, therefore it should be used only by people who knows what is for. Continue reading “Create an LPAR with specific WWPNs”
How to create SEA without touching VIOS
In this post I will describe how to create a Shared Ethernet Adapter (SEA) from the new HMC Enhanced GUI interface where no single command in VIOS command line is required. Continue reading “How to create SEA without touching VIOS”
Use link aggregation instead of VIPA on IBM i
In the past, the only option to provide redundant Ethernet on dedicated network adapters for IBM i was a VIRTUALIP ‘interface’. Starting with IBM i 7.1 TR3, there is a new feature called Link aggregation. It is much better and much easier for implementation than VIPA.

My few words about HMC Enhanced + interface
Those of you who run recent hardware, probably noticed the new HMC interface called Enhanced+ GUI available since the HMC Firmware 8.8.1 SP1. In this post I would like to share my point of view and give some advice for people who would like to use it. Continue reading “My few words about HMC Enhanced + interface”
POWER8 – No hardware maintenance-no firmware upgrade
Back in the day, downloading of a server firmware from IBM Fix Central website was limited only to users and serial numbers with valid IBM hardware maintenance contract. With POWER8 servers IBM put such a lock into the servers. Thus, if your hardware maintenance contract expired, you cannot install any newer firmware beyond this date. IBM i lpar crashed duo to Dynamic Platform Optimizer
Dynamic Platform Optimizer is a hypervisor function which rearranges logical partition processors and memory on the system to improve the affinity between processors, and memory of logical partitions. In this post I will describe when to use this function and how to prevent IBM i Lpar from crash. Continue reading “IBM i lpar crashed duo to Dynamic Platform Optimizer”
Perform a command across multiple IBM i systems
There is a very simple how to submit any IBM i command across multiple systems. The main requirement for it is the Management Central. Continue reading “Perform a command across multiple IBM i systems”
Setting CPU/MEM as absolute value from the HMC CLI
From the HMC firmware version 8, it is possible to define absolute values for DLPAR commands in order to change physical, virtual CPUs from the HMC command line. Continue reading “Setting CPU/MEM as absolute value from the HMC CLI”
HMC 8.8.2 and SP1 installation
I would like to bring to attention installation order of fixes for the HMC firmware 8.8.2. If you install the fixes in incorrect order, you might loose the RMC connection to all AIX/VIOS hosts.
